Mitchell, South Dakota – Plans to dredge Lake Mitchell are progressing, with work set to begin in 2026. Barr Engineering updated the Mitchell City Council on Monday, outlining a phased project that will begin with a lake drawdown this fall, followed by dredging and spillway reconstruction.
Permits from the United States Army Corps of Engineers are still pending, and cultural resource studies are necessary to safeguard potential Native American artifacts.
There will also be a plan in place to handle any artifacts discovered during the project. Click here for more government stories from MitchellNow.com.
