LIMA, Ohio – People who came out to Faurot Park on Sunday afternoon enjoyed live music, classic vehicles, and other activities — all for a worthy cause.
This was the 12th annual King Car Show to benefit the Lima Salvation Army. Over 150 cars, trucks, and motorcycles were on display at the park. The event attracts hundreds of people, and the money raised through food sales, raffles, and entrance fees stays in the community to support the Salvation Army’s various programs.
“It aids in the purchase of Christmas toys, as well as the distribution of food baskets or soup kitchens on Sunday evenings. So it helps a lot. It’s a blessing to know that a lot of people enjoy doing this and come out here specifically for it,” says Capt. Charity Bender of the Lima Salvation Army.
Over the past dozen years, the fundraiser has grown significantly.
“It was originally in Perry Township, and we had about 25 cars. It was a small place at an event that we were having, and I got in touch with the Salvation Army at the time, and I said, Hey, I’d like to choose an organization that would be great for me to donate to and help out. And I joined the Salvation Army, and I’ve been with them ever since,” says Richie Crouch, Founder of King Car Show.
Some car, truck, and motorcycle owners drove away with bragging rights and trophies from this year’s car show.
