The body of a missing Cleveland man was discovered in Erie County I-Team

Erie County, Ohio – The Fox 8 I-Team has learned that a body discovered in a marshy area of the Huron River in May has been identified as a 32-year-old Cleveland man who was reported missing in November.

According to Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth, investigators discovered that “the body has been identified as that of George A. Cox, Jr.”

The sheriff stated that Cox was reported missing on November 8. He also appeared on FOX 8’s Missing with Amanda Berry in December and May 20.

A kayaker discovered the body. The sheriff stated that the body was badly decomposed.

An autopsy was performed at the Lucas County Coroner’s Office in Toledo, which assisted in determining the victim’s identity, as well as missing person information files and DNA.

“Based on the missing person report to that agency, CPD is now the lead agency in this investigation,” according to an Erie County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Anyone with information about the case should contact CPD Missing Persons Liaison Detective Kevin Callahan, #133, at 216-623-7697.

The I-Team has reached out to the Cleveland Division of Police for more information.
