Stormy Weather and Heat Continue for Orlando, FL

Orlando, Fla. – Central Florida drivers should be prepared for slick roads and reduced visibility as daily thunderstorms move through the Orlando area each afternoon and evening this week. The combination of high humidity and soaring temperatures will push the heat index past 100°F at times, making for a very hot and sticky week.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, scattered storms are most likely to develop after 5 p.m. on Sunday, with similar patterns expected throughout the week, lasting through Wednesday. Heavy downpours and frequent lightning are anticipated, with rainfall totals ranging between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. However, localized areas may see higher amounts, causing possible flooding.

In terms of temperatures, Orlando is forecast to reach highs in the low-to-mid 90s through midweek, with the heat index climbing as high as 104°F. Overnight lows will hover in the mid-70s, providing little relief from the oppressive daytime heat. The storms will also affect nearby communities such as Kissimmee, Sanford, and Winter Park, potentially slowing travel on I-4 and other highways in the area.

Residents are urged to plan their outdoor activities around the late-day storms, avoid flooded intersections, and secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds. Lightning is the most significant threat, especially for outdoor workers or those attending evening events.

Slightly drier conditions may arrive by Thursday, though storm chances will remain in place through Wednesday night.
