LIMA, Ohio – Radio control pilots will put on a show this weekend. The Lima Area Radio Kontrol Society will hold their “Sparks Over LARKS” show on Saturday.

The club promotes model aviation and holds fundraisers throughout the spring and summer to help cover field expenses. Pilots will demonstrate their skills with jets capable of reaching speeds of over 200 miles per hour. Members invite the public to come out and watch the fast-moving action in the skies.

“The airplanes and radios are more capable than the human eye, but we try to keep things in a pattern based on the wind direction, so everyone is flying in the same direction and we’re not passing like two cars on the highway.

We don’t want to do that because it would be disastrous for the models and the owner’s finances. So we want to make sure that safety is always first. But if they come out here, they’ll see a variety of aspects of the hobby,” said Ron Ballard, a member of the Lima Area Radio Kontrol Society.

The show will take place this Saturday, June 14, with an opening ceremony around 10 a.m. and a high-speed jet demonstration at noon, weather permitting. The event is free to watch, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
