A Washington mother was charged with attempted murder after authorities claimed she tried to kill her 8-week-old son, who suffered 20 rib fractures.
Shannon McNease has been charged with attempted murder and assault on a child, according to jail records in Kitsap County, Washington.
The Bremerton Police Department stated in a release that McNease’s daughter was taken to the hospital by her father on August 7. The kid was “suffering from a brain bleed and multiple fractures in various stages of healing, indicating non-accidental trauma,” according to the police.
In addition to 20 rib fractures, the baby girl sustained six metaphyseal fractures. Police claimed that the brain bleed could have been caused by shaking an infant.
“It was determined the injuries most likely occurred while the infant was in the care of her mother, Shannon McNease,” the police said. “In addition, it was learned McNease had an online conversation with a friend revealing homicidal intent toward the infant.”
The child survived her injuries and is now under the care of other family members. McNease was arrested on September 4.
It is unclear whether McNease has entered a plea or retained an attorney.
KIRO reported, citing court documents, that the online conversations mentioned by police were alleged Facebook messages sent by McNease.
“She’s back on her BS again,” she allegedly wrote, according to the publication. “I can’t stand her dude.”
According to the documents, McNease wrote, “Like I legit want to shake her to death or throw her on top of the floor so hard she dies,” as well as, “I adore her down to the bones.”
