Rainy Midweek Weather Hits Massachusetts Heavy Downpours and Cooler Temperatures Expected

A soggy midweek pattern is settling over Massachusetts, bringing widespread rain, cooler temperatures, and the possibility of heavier downpours across the state. According to the National Weather Service in Norton, rain is expected to begin after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, spreading through Massachusetts and into neighboring Connecticut and Rhode Island.

The heaviest rain bands are likely to hit western Massachusetts, with average rainfall totals around 1.5 inches, and localized areas potentially seeing even more. Southeastern Massachusetts, including the South Shore and Cape Cod, will also experience steady rain into the evening.

Travelers are advised to prepare for slower commutes, especially during the evening drive, as reduced visibility and ponding on roads will make travel more challenging. Major highways such as I-90, I-91, and I-95 could be impacted, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation encourages drivers to allow extra time for their journeys.

Temperatures will remain cooler than usual, with daytime highs expected to stay in the mid-60s inland and only reaching the low 70s near Boston and along the coast. The rain is expected to taper off by Thursday morning, although lingering showers could persist along the south coast before drier air moves in.

Further updates will be issued if rainfall totals increase or if localized flooding becomes a concern. Residents are urged to stay updated on the weather conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly.
