A woman and her 7-year-old son were killed by their husband and father, who police believe committed a double murder-suicide.

Authorities responded to an apartment complex in Katy, Texas, on Saturday, June 7, and discovered a woman and a child dead from gunshot wounds, as well as a man injured, according to a Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) news release shared on Facebook.

The man was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival, according to police.

According to the HSCO, the woman found dead was 43 years old, while her husband was 42. A family member informed authorities that the man “had been depressed lately due to unemployment and other issues.”

All three of the deceased’s identities have yet to be revealed.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated at a press conference that the young boy was discovered “deceased in bed,” according to Fox 26 Houston.

“Homicide investigators, detectives, and CSI units are on the scene processing,” Sheriff Gonzalez said.

“Lately, the adult male had apparently been without a job and going through some other issues and had possibly sought some treatment recently,” according to him. “But today, we don’t know what transpired that led him to take this type of action.”

According to Fox 26 Houston, two other people were in the house at the time of the shooting: a 19-year-old woman, believed to be the deceased couple’s daughter, who was in her bedroom, and her boyfriend, who was staying overnight.

The shooting did not result in any injuries, according to the outlet.

The investigation is currently ongoing.

The HCSO did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Sunday, June 8.
