Overnight Lane Reductions and Closures on I-80 and Houbolt Road in Joliet

Drivers in Will County, Illinois, should prepare for overnight lane closures and traffic delays on I-80 and Houbolt Road as crews continue work on a new bridge project. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced temporary disruptions for two nights this week, affecting drivers traveling through the area.

What to Expect

Starting on Monday, July 14, and continuing Tuesday, July 15, IDOT will close lanes on I-80 and Houbolt Road overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. During these hours, I-80 will be reduced to one lane in each direction near Houbolt Road. Similarly, Houbolt Road will also be reduced to one lane in each direction at the I-80 interchange. All ramps connecting I-80 to Houbolt Road will be closed during the same hours.

Temporary Full Stops

Starting at 11 p.m. each night, drivers should expect full stops of up to 15 minutes on Houbolt Road. This is due to construction crews working overhead to set steel beams for the new bridge. These stops are necessary for the safety of workers and drivers during the installation process.

Plan Ahead for Delays

IDOT expects all lanes and ramps to reopen by 6 a.m. each morning, allowing traffic to flow normally for the rest of the day. The work is expected to be completed by Wednesday morning, July 16, weather permitting. Drivers are advised to plan for possible delays and consider using alternate routes if possible to avoid congestion.
