One adolescent died and one was critically injured in a Paulding County collision

Paulding County, Ohio — Following an early Sunday morning crash in Paulding County, Ohio, one teen was killed and another was seriously injured.

According to an Ohio State Highway Patrol press release, an 18-year-old man was driving his car north on CR 133 around 1 a.m. Sunday.

According to preliminary findings, the 18-year-old failed to stop at a sign near the intersection of SR 111 and CR 133. After passing through the intersection, the vehicle veered to the left and collided with a tree.

According to the Highway Patrol, the passenger in the vehicle, 17-year-old Kaiya Klopfenstein of Defiance, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The 18-year-old driver was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The Highway Patrol did not say in the release whether they thought alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

It’s unclear whether the 18-year-old will face any charges as a result of the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
