Omaha Weather Alert Severe Thunderstorm Risk Sunday Afternoon

Nebraska residents should prepare for the possibility of severe thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon, with the greatest risks expected between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Omaha/Valley.

The NWS reports that storms will be scattered and spotty, but any that do form could produce large hail and damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph. While all types of severe weather are possible, the tornado risk is considered low, with a 2% chance mainly focused in central Nebraska.

The forecast indicates a 30–50% chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, with a 5–10% chance that an individual storm could become severe. While many areas may remain dry, localized impacts could be significant where storms do develop.

Residents planning outdoor activities are urged to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially during the late afternoon and evening. The NWS recommends monitoring official updates and being prepared to move indoors quickly if storms approach.
