LIMA, Ohio – New Lima-Housing for the Future is celebrating 25 years of providing affordable housing in the community.
Since 2000, the nonprofit has built more than 300 affordable housing units in Ohio, costing more than $61 million. Nearly 250 of these units were built in Lima to help low- and moderate-income people and families. Over the last 25 years, the organization has served over 1,000 households.
“We’re celebrating 25 years of extremely productive work, and the organization has remained unchanged. Barbara Massa, former director of New Lima-Housing for the Future, stated, “We have remained small, dedicated to our mission, and most successful in doing so.”
Current leaders are focused on expanding their service areas and increasing homeownership opportunities.
“We will definitely be providing more single-family homeownership opportunities for our affordable housing residents, as well as some additional senior rentals. We’re expanding our service area, and we’re also focusing on the area just outside of Lima — communities that we haven’t served in the last 25 years,” said Scott Frenger, director of New Lima-Housing for the Future.
Two modular homes on Hazel Avenue, as part of New Lima’s most recent housing development, are expected to be completed and closed by October.
