PENSACOLA, Fla – Airman Landin Boyle, a New Bremen, Ohio native, is assigned to the United States Navy’s Aviation Rescue Swimmer School (ARSS), where the next generation of Aviation Rescue Swimmers (AIRRs) is trained to perform life-or-death rescues in the most extreme conditions imaginable.

Boyle attended New Bremen High School and graduated in 2020.

Boyle joined the navy seven months ago. Today, Boyle works as a student rescue swimmer.

“I joined the Navy because I wanted to be a rescue swimmer,” Boyle told me. “My brother was in the Navy and talked to me about the options available, including the challenges and rewards.”

The skills and values required to succeed in the Navy are comparable to those found in New Bremen.

“I learned the importance of putting in the effort required,” Boyle told me. “It’s important to never give up.”

ARSS, located at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, offers initial aviation water survival training and CPR certification to all preflight student naval aviators, student naval flight officers, student flight surgeons, naval aircrew candidates, student aviators from other branches of the United States Armed Forces, and international student aviators.

As members of the world’s most elite Special Operations force, AIRRs are committed to being the world’s best emergency response unit. AIRRs carry out search and rescue missions in some of the most extreme environments imaginable, leaping from helicopters, swimming through raging seas, and saving victims whose lives are in danger. The AIRR’s motto is “so others may live.” It demonstrates not only the selflessness of this job, but also the honor, courage, and commitment required to perform it successfully.

The United States Navy is celebrating its 250th birthday this year.

According to United States Navy representatives, “America is a maritime nation and for 250 years, America’s Warfighting Navy has sailed the globe in defense of freedom.”

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet reliant on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the United States’ prosperity is inextricably linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Boyle works for a Navy that operates far ahead, around the world and around the clock, promoting the country’s prosperity and security.

Boyle has numerous opportunities to accomplish his goals while serving in the military.

“My biggest accomplishment in the Navy will be in four weeks when I graduate from air rescue swimmer school,” Boyle told me.

Boyle can be proud to have served America in the military.

“I get to serve my country and it gives me pride in doing a job well done,” Boyle told CNN.

Boyle thanks others for making his Navy career possible.

“I’d like to thank my father for his support,” Boyle added. “I’d also like to thank my brother for everything he’s told me about the Navy.”
