Carrie Jones, a Nebraska woman, was found guilty of first-degree murder for her role in the death of 86-year-old Gene Twiford, one of the four victims in a tragic quadruple slaying that took place in August 2022. While Carrie did not physically kill Twiford, prosecutors argued that she was the mastermind behind the murder, manipulating her husband, Jason Jones, to carry out the killings.
The brutal series of murders began after Carrie complained to her husband about Twiford’s alleged verbal harassment. She reportedly told investigators, “This s—’s gotta stop or I’m gonna kill him.” Carrie and Jason exchanged texts discussing the idea of murder, and in a violent argument the night before the killings, she threatened Jason with a gun and a knife, insisting that he deal with Twiford or she would.
On the night of August 4, 2022, Jason Jones broke into Twiford’s home, shooting him dead. In the process, he also killed Twiford’s wife, Janet, and their daughter, Dana. He then went on to kill another neighbor, Michele Eberling, whom Carrie reportedly found “weird.” After committing the murders, Jason returned home, severely burned, and told Carrie about the killings. Instead of alerting authorities or seeking help for her husband, Carrie disposed of incriminating evidence and deleted text messages, attempting to cover up their involvement.
Jason Jones was convicted of four counts of first-degree murder, arson, and firearms charges, while Carrie Jones was convicted of one count of first-degree murder, evidence tampering, and being an accessory to a felony. Both are set to be sentenced on November 20, with Carrie facing a mandatory life sentence for her conviction.
This case underscores the chilling consequences of manipulation and influence, where an individual’s desire for revenge led to the loss of multiple innocent lives.
