Following a spectacular breakup, President Donald Trump and Elon Musk banded together to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The two were seen shaking hands in a box at Kirk’s memorial service on Sunday afternoon at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University during his ‘Prove Me Wrong’ campus tour. His assassination elicited worldwide support, as well as criticism from conservatives and leftists.
The relationship, or bromance, between Musk and the President blossomed when the Tesla CEO campaigned for Trump during his 2024 presidential campaign, assisting him in winning both the electoral and popular vote.
He then founded DOGE, also known as the Department of Government Efficiency, claiming that he could eliminate trillions of dollars in government waste.
Musk was a frequent visitor to the Oval Office and reportedly had Trump’s ear on major policy issues early in his second term. Trump even purchased a red Tesla as a show of support for Musk.
Cracks in the relationship began to appear when Musk became a frequent critic of Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill,’ posting his criticisms on X, his own social media platform. His stance reportedly irritated Trump.
“I apologize, but I can’t take it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-laden Congressional spending bill is a repugnant abomination. Shame on those who voted for it; you know what you did wrong. Musk wrote, “You know it.” The national debt has continued to rise, now at a record $37 trillion and counting.
Musk left DOGE at the end of May. The bill, which extended Trump’s 2017 tax cuts and other initiatives, was passed in July 2025.

During remarks in June, Trump said things became “a little strange” with Musk as the administration moved closer to eliminating electric vehicle mandates, despite Musk’s prior knowledge of the plans.
The electric vehicle manufacturer had long received government incentives and funding from the Department of Energy.
