Mostly Dry Tuesday for South Carolina as Hurricane Erin Spins Offshore

Residents across the Midlands and Central Savannah River Area can expect a mostly dry Tuesday, as Hurricane Erin spins well offshore, helping to suppress local rainfall. With high temperatures climbing into the upper 80s to near 90°F, skies will remain partly sunny, providing a brief respite from the recent stretch of unsettled weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, Hurricane Erin is not expected to directly impact South Carolina but will influence local weather by driving sinking air aloft, which helps to limit thunderstorm development. This subsidence will keep rainfall isolated, a welcome change from the more active, stormy afternoons experienced recently.

Communities from Lexington to Aiken and Orangeburg should still prepare for brief pop-up storms, though widespread downpours are unlikely. Major roadways, including I-20 and I-26, should remain mostly dry during peak commute hours. However, heat and humidity will still be noticeable, and officials are urging residents to stay hydrated during outdoor activities as temperatures approach 90°F with elevated humidity.

Conditions are expected to remain relatively dry until midweek, although moisture could return later as Hurricane Erin tracks farther north. Additional updates may be issued if storm chances increase again toward Thursday.
