Mitchell resident charged during a car pursuit

A 39-year-old Mitchell man is facing multiple charges after a vehicle pursuit early Thursday morning north of Mitchell.

According to a Davison County Sheriff’s Office news release, around 1:10 a.m., a deputy observed a northbound Chevy Impala driving recklessly near mile marker 77 on Highway 37 near the Lake Mitchell spillway. The vehicle was clocked going 66 mph in a 30 mph construction zone while failing to maintain its lane.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle with emergency lights and sirens, but it continued north on 37 to the Sanborn County line. The vehicle then turned around and headed south, where other deputies successfully deployed tire spikes and the pursuit came to an end near the intersection of Highway 37 and North Harmon Drive.

The driver, Corey Bowers, was identified and charged with aggravated eluding, reckless driving, and no proof of insurance. He was arrested and transported to the Davison County Jail.
