An organization dedicated to raising funds to help veterans in need stopped in Mitchell to deliver a message in front of the Corn Palace’s Statue of Liberty mural.
Kevin Stoterau is part of the Nation of Patriots tour. The relay carries an American flag, which is either flown at the White House or a military base. “The flag hits all 50 states within 115 days, making stops all along the way,” according to Stoterau. “A lot of the trip of the flag is on motorcycle.”
And relays it to other riders along the way. “Then I present you with the American flag and officially recognize you as a flag-bearer. Ride in honor of the country and those who have protected all. “Godspeed, flag bearer.” When the flag was passed to the next rider in the Corn Palace Plaza.
Stoterau is passionate about the Nation of Patriots’ mission of raising funds to assist disabled veterans who are experiencing financial difficulties. “I’m helping those who have also given to our country,” Stoterau said. “And I served over half my life trying to help protect the country, and that means a lot to me.”
The riders are traveling over a thousand miles, with several stops in South Dakota. The group will complete its mission later this week by delivering the flag to Fargo, North Dakota, where it will join the next group of riders.
