Mitchell, South Dakota – A proposed 25-acre development near Lake Mitchell could begin construction this fall if the City Council approves the final rezoning at tonight’s meeting.
Justin Thiesse, the developer, has plans for housing, a senior living center, a daycare, a coffee shop, and other amenities. While the council voted 6-2 to approve the first reading of the zoning change, some members expressed concerns about the project’s size and scope.
According to the Mitchell Republic, supporters of the project believe it will increase housing options, job creation, and tax revenue. Critics, including nearby property owners, have expressed concerns about transparency and possible overdevelopment.
If approved, the first phase would include a senior living facility. Thiesse warns that Mitchell’s rejection could send the wrong message about his willingness to grow. Click here for more government stories from MitchellNow.com.
