A shooting late Thursday night left two Milwaukee police officers injured after they were allegedly fired upon while responding to a weapons-related call on the city’s north side.
According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the incident took place around 9:22 p.m. near N. 25th Street and W. Garfield Avenue. Officers had been dispatched to investigate a report of a subject allegedly armed with a weapon. The call was later updated, indicating that shots had been fired.
As officers approached an alley near the 2200 block of N. 24th Place, they were reportedly ambushed and struck by gunfire. Police stated that neither officer was able to return fire during the attack.
One of the officers, a 32-year-old male with over six years of service, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in critical condition. The second officer, a 29-year-old male also with more than six years of experience, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is listed in stable condition.
The Milwaukee Police Department confirmed that a known suspect is being sought in connection with the shooting. The Milwaukee Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation, and authorities are actively working to gather more information. As of Friday morning, no arrests had been made.
The Milwaukee Police Department expressed gratitude to the Milwaukee Fire Department and Froedtert medical staff for their swift response and care. They also thanked the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies for their support during the investigation.
