Royal Oak, Michigan — A 45-year-old woman is in custody after police responded to a mental health crisis and discovered her mother’s fatal neck injury.

On June 4, Leslie Cataldo, 66, called the Royal Oak Police Department to report that her daughter, Jennifer Cataldo, needed to be taken to the hospital due to a mental health crisis. Authorities “detected signs of a struggle while speaking” with the daughter.

Leslie Cataldo was found unresponsive on the floor inside the apartment, suffering from a life-threatening neck wound. She was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery and died the next day.

Jennifer Cataldo was arrested at the scene and booked into the Oakland County Jail. On June 6, she was arraigned and charged with first-degree murder.
