Dayton, Ohio  –  The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office has accepted the Traffic Safety Grant Award.

Sheriff Doug Timmermam stated that the grant will assist deputies in reducing traffic fatalities and serious injury crashes.

“The grant enables our deputies to devote more time to problem areas while on patrol. “The grant is divided into two focus areas,” the MCSO stated.

The first part of the grant, titled “Repeat Offenders for Driving While Intoxicated,” is worth approximately $26,000. These funds will be used to locate individuals driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The second component costs $28K and is titled “State and Community Highway Safety”. This will be used to focus on enforcing traffic laws and promoting safety.

“Sheriff Timmerman and his staff are committed to keeping our roads safe. We remind you to always wear your seatbelt and never drink or text while driving,” the MCSO wrote.
