WELLINGTON, Ohio — The Lorain County Fair is currently underway, with increased security measures in place to ensure the safety of attendees.
Lorain County officials told 3News that they had been meeting with law enforcement all year to plan security, even before recent incidents at other county fairs in Northeast Ohio raised concerns.
Officials say they’ve added more law enforcement officers during peak hours and increased lighting in certain areas to keep the fairgrounds well-lit in the evening.
Police officers and sheriff’s deputies are stationed throughout the grounds, constantly patrolling their designated areas.
Following recent violent incidents at Northeast Ohio fairs, the Lorain County Fair 2025 will increase security with more officers, lighting, and safety measures.
Rick Ternes, president of the Lorain County Fair Board, stated that the board is aware of violent incidents at other fairs but does not assume that the same issues will arise.
Admission to the fair was free on the first day, but tickets cost $10 starting today. The fair runs through Sunday, August 24.
3News previously reported that an 18-year-old was shot in the torso at the Cuyahoga County Fair after a fight on the midway.
In addition, the Summit County Fair had to close early on Friday, July 25, due to two isolated disturbances on the fairgrounds.
