ELYRIA, Ohio— The Lorain County Dog Kennel has modernized its payment systems, making it easier for those who want to support the facility’s mission.

The payment processing update, which addresses a long-standing operational issue at the facility, was announced at Friday’s Lorain County Commissioners meeting. The upgraded system now accepts a variety of electronic payment methods, including traditional card swipes, chip readers, contactless tap payments, and online payment options.

The donation system is accessible through the dog kennel’s website, which includes a direct link for credit card donations. Cash and check donations will continue to be accepted.

The Lorain County Dog Kennel is not funded by the general fund and depends heavily on public donations. Aside from monetary donations, the kennel needs dog collars, leashes, chew toys, treats, bones, canned or dry dog food, bleach, machine-washable dog beds, and large and small bath towels.

The kennel frequently faces critical capacity issues and welcomes the public to visit its dogs looking for forever homes. Visit the kennel’s Dogs to Adopt page to see a list of current dogs and their availability dates. Those with questions can contact the kennel at 440-326-5995.

The Lorain County Dog Kennel is located at 301 Hadaway Court in Elyria. The hours of operation are Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and all legal holidays.
