LIMA, Ohio — Have you heard about the “Great Pumpkin Commonwealth”? If not, you can learn all about it during the first weekend of October in Lima.
The “Pumpkin Invasion” will be an official G-P-C weigh-off event to determine how large a pumpkin can grow. Giant pumpkins will line the corner of South Union and East Spring streets as Social House hosts this new community event on October 3-4.
Shannon Gerasimchik, the owner of Social House, may be familiar to fans of Food Network’s Halloween Wars. She competed on season seven as the pumpkin carving artist for Team “Morbid Masterminds.” Gerasimchik has gathered a group of professional carvers to demonstrate their ability to transform giant gourds into works of art.
“There’s going to be a lot of artistry. These guys are incredibly talented. They will, you know, take the pumpkin and flip it on its end, making it very tall. These guys will look at the pumpkin and see what’s inside, and they’ll do some amazing things,” Gerasimchik explained.
The “Pumpkin Invasion” will also include family-friendly activities like pumpkin painting, games, food trucks, and more. Visitors can also participate in an amateur pumpkin carving competition.
The festivities begin Friday, October 3, at 3 p.m., with the weigh-off at 5 p.m. The event will continue Saturday, October 4, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at South Union and East Spring streets in downtown Lima. Carvers will work throughout the day.
