LIMA, Ohio – With little significant rainfall expected in the near future, the City of Lima claims it is well-prepared to deal with the ongoing dry conditions.
Months of low natural rainfall have resulted in moderate drought conditions, but city officials credit the construction of five reservoirs for ensuring an adequate water supply. These reservoirs can hold up to 5 billion gallons of water, with the city’s average daily usage of 14 million gallons.
According to Mike Caprella, Lima’s utilities director, the reservoirs are maintaining healthy levels despite the dry weather.
“We’re doing really well, right? Right now, we still have about 81, 82% of our total capacity in those reservoirs, which is a fairly normal level for this time of the year. Now. In another two months, two and a half months, we’ll get the late fall rains, as we always do, and we’ll top them off. “But even if we don’t get that, we’re fine,” Caprella said.
He also stated that, when possible, the city pumps water from nearby rivers in the spring to replenish the reservoirs.
