LIMA, Ohio – A Lima City Council member is working to find a solution to reduce gun violence in the city.

Sixth Ward Councilman Dr. Derry Glenn stated that many residents have approached him for assistance in reducing the number of shootings in Lima. Some incidents this summer have featured young teenagers as either the victim or the shooter.

Glenn stated that gun violence has become a public health issue in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, gun violence kills an average of 125 people per day across the country. He is developing programs to address the issue locally.

“We are going to collaborate with some out-of-town groups, bringing them in to work with our youth about gun violence and educate them about it. They will be out in a few weeks. We’re working as quickly as we can on this, but I want people to understand that I’m working extremely hard to get out of this. I am not just sitting down. I couldn’t sleep at night after this happened. So, yes, I’m out talking about it, and I intend to work on it. “I promise you that we’ll do something together,” said Derry Glenn, Lima’s Sixth Ward Councilman.

Glenn said he hopes to have a plan in place to reduce gun violence within three weeks.
