Columbus, Ohio — An Ohio festival commemorating the 30th anniversary of an iconic 1990s film will begin Thursday night, and organizers have made some major announcements that will undoubtedly excite attendees.
Tommy Boy Fest, honoring the 1995 buddy comedy “Tommy Boy,” set in Sandusky and starring David Spade and Chris Farley, will be a three-day event on Ohio’s Lake Erie coast from August 7-9. Shores & Islands Ohio has announced additional details for Sandusky’s Jackson Street Pier and surrounding area, as well as a new guest appearance by Kevin Farley, brother of the late Chris Farley.
Farley will kick off the event’s entertainment on Thursday night by hosting the “Tommy Boy” lookalike contest. Farley will also perform a comedy show later that night, followed by an outdoor screening of “Tommy Boy.”
Friday will start with the Tommy Boy Fest Movie Classics Car Show. The original 1967 Plymouth Belvedere II GTX convertible, owned by director Peter Segal and used in the film, will be the show’s main attraction. Shores & Islands Ohio stated that reproductions of other well-known movie vehicles from films such as “The Blues Brothers,” “Jurassic Park,” “Ghostbusters,” and “Back to the Future” will be on display.
Following the car show, there will be a double feature of Segal-directed films “50 First Dates” and “Tommy Boy.” The festival will conclude with a screening of “Tommy Boy” at 7 p.m. on Saturday. This screening will feature a Q&A session with Segal.
Aside from the Jackson Street Pier, there will be other community events, such as a ’90s-themed bike ride, an evening party cruise on the Goodtime I, a scavenger hunt, and local sightseeing tours. Local restaurants will serve themed menus, and a nearby brewing festival, The Small City Taphouse/CLAG Brewing Festival, which previously released the “Fat Guy in a Little Can” Double IPA, will provide additional entertainment.
