A fundraising campaign has been launched to help Jon Danklefsen, who was critically injured in a boat explosion and fire at the Put-in-Bay fuel dock on August 9.
Danklefsen, who had just finished fueling when the vessel exploded, sustained second-degree burns that covered nearly 45% of his body. He escaped the flames by jumping into the water, but was airlifted from the island and is still in intensive care.
His daughter, Myah Danklefsen, revealed that the accident has rendered her father unable to work while incurring significant medical expenses. “He has five children and a wife, whom he has always supported, primarily through his business, which he is now unable to operate due to the incident. We’re looking for help with medical bills,” she wrote on the fundraising page.
The explosion destroyed two boats and sent thick smoke across the harbor, prompting a quick response from the Put-in-Bay Fire Department, US Coast Guard, EMS, and local boaters.
Community members who want to help the Danklefsen family can do so by donating to the official GoFundMe campaign, which is located here: Help Jon Danklefsen’s ICU Medical Bills.
