Jeremiah Washington starts trial following the July 2024 shooting at Bill's Drive Thru

LIMA, Ohio – A 20-year-old man is on trial for charges stemming from a shooting at Bill’s Drive-Thru last summer.

Jeremiah Washington, 20, is charged with felonious assault and aggravated robbery. Both charges include firearm specifications. In July 2024, Allen County deputies responded to Bill’s Drive-Thru after receiving reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, they discovered a victim lying on the pavement with severe injuries. Washington allegedly fled the scene but was later apprehended at the Brower Road Apartments. Washington’s defense declined to present an opening statement in court on Tuesday.

During the prosecution’s opening statement, attorneys said deputies discovered a gun, marijuana, and clothing that matched the description of what Washington was wearing on the day of the shooting at the apartment complex where he was arrested.

“They find the gun and collect it. The video and the description both mention the red hoodie. When Jeremiah was arrested, he was not wearing a red hoodie, but one was discovered in apartment 42. It was in a trash can, in a tied trash bag. An officer opened the trash bag.

They notice some food and a red hoodie. There were some black shoes just below that. They find a mask. “They’re grabbing anything that could be evidence, and they come across a bag of marijuana,” says Joe Everhart, Assistant Prosecutor, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.

The trial is scheduled to resume Wednesday morning.
