A jealous, inebriated Oklahoma husband fatally shot his wife inside his Ford F-350 after she received a phone call from another man, then drove her bleeding body to a Walmart to meet paramedics, police say.

Kyle Shackelford, 32, is charged with manslaughter after killing his wife, Rylee Shackelford, 25, on May 26, according to court records.

The arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime described what happened on Monday night before officers met with the Shackelfords at a Walmart in Garvin County, located at 2008 West Grant Avenue in Pauls Valley.

Kyle Shackelford allegedly went into a deadly drunken rage after answering his wife’s phone and discovering her former boyfriend — now just a “friend” — on the other end, according to police who interviewed him.

“[The former boyfriend] said that he had received two missed calls from Rylee earlier that night and when [the friend] returned the video call to Rylee, Kyle answered the phone asking who [the friend] was,” said the affidavit. [The friend] stated that he heard Rylee in the background asking for her phone back. When the call was disconnected, [the friend] attempted to call back several times but received no answer. [The friend] got a Snapchat text that said, ‘Please stop before I get my a— beat, I’m begging you.’ [The friend] responded to the text, but never heard from Rylee again.”

Cops apprehended Kyle Shackelford, who was with his father-in-law inside the F-350 at the Pauls Valley Walmart shortly before 3 a.m., according to police. They discovered Rylee Shackelford unconscious in the passenger seat, pale, not breathing, and turning blue. Kyle Shackelford had been drinking heavily at a local casino earlier in the night, downing “7, 8 beers from 4 or 5 o’clock,” according to investigators.

According to the affidavit, surveillance video shows the defendant ordering “double Apple Crown (whiskey), Sprite, and a double Malibu, a mixed drink containing rum, two different times.” According to cops, he was seen drinking whiskey as well as a portion of the rum drink. Kyle Shackelford was also allegedly caught on surveillance buying “BuzzBallz Chillers” at a nearby store prior to the fatal shooting.

According to the affidavit, the couple had just returned home from a casino when the fight broke out. The couple fought first in the house, then went outside to their truck.

Kyle stated that while he and Rylee were sitting in his truck… Kyle moved a pistol from where he had placed it on the console, according to the affidavit. “The gun fired once, striking Rylee in the left side.”

Kyle Shackelford allegedly displayed signs of “noticeable level” of intoxication during his police interview and while speaking to cops at Walmart, including “red watery eyes and a slurred speech,” according to the arrest affidavit.

Kyle Shackelford alleged that the shooting occurred while he and Rylee Shackelford were “bickering.” He informed investigators at the station that “he and Rylee ‘had been fighting’ after a friend of a friend called Rylee’s phone.” Kyle and Rylee Shackelford then began arguing.

“Kyle said he was frustrated and went outside to his truck,” the affidavit states. “Kyle admitted that he had been drinking and refused to leave. Rylee climbed into the truck’s passenger seat as Kyle moved to the driver’s side. Kyle claimed Rylee was enraged and was hitting the console where he had placed a pistol.”

Kyle Shackelford claimed that when he attempted to “swipe” the pistol away from the console, it “went off” and shot Rylee Shackelford in the left abdomen. “Kyle said that he went inside to get Rylee’s father … to drive them to the hospital,” according to the witness statement.

While on the phone with 911, Kyle Shackelford stated that he was in the truck with his wife seeking medical attention and agreed to meet the ambulance at Walmart. Rylee Shackelford’s father was allegedly driving, according to police.

According to the affidavit, police discovered the gun Kyle Shackelford allegedly used with one empty cartridge still chambered and three live cartridges loaded in the magazine.

“The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Report states that the bullet entered the left anterolateral chest, 16 inches down from the top of her head and 9 inches from the midline,” according to the paper. “The bullet fractured the left anterior rib #5, punctured the heart through the left ventricle and right atrium, and was found in the right anterior chest wall. According to the written report, no bullet damage was found on her left arm, implying that it was pulled back or raised in defense.

Kyle Shackelford was booked into the Garvin County Jail on August 26 and released on a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on September 12.
