Connecticut is grappling with a significant surge in bed bug infestations across several cities in 2025. According to recent reports, Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, Waterbury, and Stamford are among the hardest-hit areas, prompting coordinated responses from local governments, pest control companies, and public health agencies.
Cities Battling the Bed Bug Onslaught
1. Hartford
Hartford experienced the most dramatic rise on Orkin’s 2025 Top 50 Bed Bug Cities List, jumping 48 spots to rank No. 35. This indicates a significant increase in bed bug activity and public reporting, prompting heightened awareness and control measures in the city.
2. New Haven
Both Orkin and Terminix list the “Hartford & New Haven” region among the most bed bug-infested areas nationally for 2025. New Haven has seen closures of public venues, such as seating at Union Station, due to bed bug incidents. There are also reports of increased bed bug activity in city schools, libraries, and densely populated neighborhoods.
3. Bridgeport
Bridgeport, Connecticut’s largest city, deals with regular bed bug complaints and has public health advisories about bed bug prevention and control. City authorities and housing departments maintain ongoing integrated pest management programs to reduce infestations, especially in multi-unit residences.
4. Waterbury
Pest control services in Waterbury confirm active bed bug infestation cases, with local exterminators on call 24/7 to respond to urgent reports. Waterbury’s dense housing stock makes residents particularly vulnerable to rapid spread and reinfestation if not swiftly addressed.
5. Stamford & Norwalk
In the coastal corridor from Stamford through Norwalk, residents and businesses report recurring problems with bed bugs. Factors include high population density, transient populations, and the movement of used furniture and belongings between apartments, creating ripe conditions for outbreaks and repeated infestations.

I live in a New Haven apartment complex with 5 18 floor buildings. The bedbug problem got real bad here because the guy who was hired to take care of them wasn’t doing his job. Finally after two and a half months they got a new guy to take care of them and he has done a terrific job. Plus he comes back on a regular basis to check.
