FORT WAYNE, IN – A man convicted of domestic battery for breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home and beating her was sentenced Friday.

A judge in Allen Superior Court sentenced Jeffery Harris to six years in prison. He received credit for more than a year of jail time already served.

In January 2022, a New Haven man was accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s Fort Wayne home. He then fired multiple shots “into the residence and at its occupants,” but no one was injured, police said during the initial investigation.

Harris then battered the woman, who was discovered by police lying in the road with severe injuries.

Harris, now 33, was convicted of entering a residence, criminal recklessness by shooting a firearm into the structure, and domestic battery resulting in serious injury.

Months after his initial arrest, he was released but returned to custody on another felony battery charge. Harris was accused in May 2022 of hitting a man with his car while it was being towed and attempting to flee. Police discovered him in the car, however, and arrested him for the second time.
