Fort Wayne, Indiana – An Air Quality Action Day (AQAD) has been declared for several northern Indiana cities, with high ozone levels expected on Thursday.
The alert will be in effect from midnight until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday in the following areas:
- Angola;
- Auburn;
- Decatur;
- Fort Wayne;
- Hartford;
- Huntington City;
- LaGrange;
- Marion;
- Portland;
- Wabash; and
- all other cities within the area.
The AQAD applies to cities in north central and northwestern Indiana as well.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management issued the AQAD because ozone levels are expected to fall into the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” or “Orange” category.
IDEM officials say an AQAD was issued for Thursday due to smoke from Canadian wildfires, which is expected to increase fine particulate matter levels.
SmogWatch.IN.gov allows Indiana residents to view air quality information for all Indiana counties, as well as a state map of affected counties.
