Charleston, SC – A heat advisory remains in effect for much of southeast Georgia and southeast South Carolina as the region faces sweltering temperatures and high humidity. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service in Charleston, will last until 8 p.m. Tuesday, with heat index values expected to soar up to 108°F.
Impacted areas include both coastal and inland counties such as Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, McIntosh, Jasper, Beaufort, and several cities like Savannah, Hilton Head Island, Beaufort, Statesboro, and Hinesville.
The National Weather Service warns that the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity increases the risk of heat illnesses. Residents are strongly advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. The advisory also encourages people to wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours.
Signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke should not be ignored. Symptoms to watch for include dizziness, confusion, excessive sweating, or fainting. If any of these symptoms occur, prompt action is necessary.
For updates, residents can follow official weather channels and local media outlets. The heat advisory is part of a broader pattern of high temperatures impacting the southeast this week, with little relief expected until later in the week.
