WAPAKONETA, Ohio — Demonstrators gathered outside the Auglaize County Courthouse for a “Good Trouble” protest.
Organizers stated that the event was held in response to immigration policies, economic concerns, and due process issues. They stated that their goal was to remind elected officials that political power belongs to the people. The phrase “Good Trouble” refers to the late civil rights leader John Lewis, who promoted peaceful resistance.
“There are people who believe that our country is being ruined by the current administration, and there are numerous issues that we are concerned about. Terri Blosser, protest organizer, says, “We’re making our voices heard and standing proudly no matter where we are, whether we’re in a red state, a blue state, a conservative or liberal area.”
“I think that the only thing we can do is what we’re doing today- protest and require our leaders to respond to those protests and make sure that we do not put people in office who betray us, betray the constitution, and certainly what we’ve seen, betray our children,” Eric Ireland, a demonstrator, asserts.
Demonstrators said they hope to maintain public pressure on elected officials and remind them that local voices are important.
