Caribou, Maine – Overnight frost is expected to settle across northern Maine as temperatures dip into the mid-30s by early Saturday, raising the risk of damage to gardens and outdoor vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a frost advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday for Northwest Aroostook and Northern Somerset counties. Communities including Fort Kent, Allagash, Madawaska, and Clayton Lake could see widespread frost forming on exposed surfaces.
Residents are urged to cover or bring indoors sensitive plants, as even a light frost may be enough to damage or kill tender vegetation. Gardeners and farmers in the Saint John Valley and Moosehead Lake region are encouraged to take precautions before midnight.
While road impacts are not anticipated, the cold snap marks one of the first true signs of fall across northern Maine. Early risers on Saturday will likely find frosted lawns and crisp air before temperatures rebound into the 50s during the afternoon.
The advisory is set to expire at 8 a.m., but forecasters caution that additional frost events are possible through the weekend as clear skies and calm winds continue.
