Four hospitalized following the crash in Mercer County

DAYTON, Ohio — Four people were taken to the hospital following a crash in Mercer County on July 4.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Wapakoneta Post was dispatched to the intersection of US Route 127 and State Route 217 to investigate a two-vehicle collision. The accident happened around noon on Independence Day.

Troopers say a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country was travelling eastbound on SR-219 when the driver failed to stop at a red light at the US-127 intersection.

The Chrysler struck a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe travelling northbound on US-127. The Chrysler then slid off the road and crashed into a utility pole.

The driver, a 62-year-old man, did not wear a seatbelt and was seriously injured. He was first taken to a local hospital before being flown to St. Rita’s Medical Centre for treatment.

Inside the Chevrolet were a 40-year-old driver and two children, ages seven and two. They were all wearing seat belts or in child car seats. All three occupants were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to have played a role in the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Wapakoneta Post is continuing to investigate the crash.
