Watertown officials are advising residents to keep an eye on their sump pumps as the region experiences heavy rainfall.
The community’s wastewater treatment plant is experiencing significantly higher flows than normal.
The city is asking residents to ensure that their sump pumps are not connected to the sanitary sewer. Discharging water into the sewer system increases the likelihood of backups into homes and puts additional strain on the city’s system.
Following Sunday night’s storms, the city’s fire department has issued a warning about downed trees and even a few downed power lines.
Several weather observers reported seeing a tornado on the ground west of Watertown that evening. The National Weather Service has yet to report any damage from that tornado.
Another line of storms is expected to hit the area Monday evening.
