A tragic single-vehicle crash early Monday morning on U.S. Highway 90 Frontage Road in New Iberia has resulted in the death of 44-year-old Renota Lowther. Louisiana State Police are urging motorists to prioritize seat belt safety in light of the incident.
Crash Details
The crash occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. near Captain Cade Road. Louisiana State Police report that Lowther was driving a 2012 Infiniti M37 westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the road to the right. Authorities believe that Lowther overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross the roadway and exit to the left before overturning after hitting an embankment.

Lowther, who was reportedly unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Louisiana State Police have collected routine toxicology samples for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.
