A guy wanted for allegedly abusing and extorting his mother threatened and assaulted law enforcement officers as they approached to arrest him, according to authorities.
James Andrew Woerner, 38, has reportedly been in the Bexar County Jail since Saturday on accusations of aggravated assault against a public worker and obstruction or retaliation. The crime is claimed to have began on Friday, when Woerner allegedly stormed into his 73-year-old mother’s San Antonio home and requested that she withdraw money from an ATM.
According to court documents obtained by CBS affiliate KENS, she refused, making him increasingly agitated.
According to the records, Woerner threatened to burn his mother alive before putting her into a car, striking her, and saying that he would crash the vehicle and murder both of them. His mother eventually got out of the moving automobile.
The suspect’s father phoned the San Antonio Police Department, according to local ABC affiliate KSAT. His tip, however, came with a caution, as the father reportedly described his son’s plan. Woerner apparently planned to throw “nitric acid” at the responding officers.
The next day, when officers arrived at the 9000 block of East Sonterra Boulevard to arrest Woerner on charges including damage to the elderly, he threw a “acidic substance” at one of them, according to the arrest affidavit. The “acidic substance” struck the officer but also landed on the ground, where it began to “sizzle,” KENS said.
Woerner is also accused of tossing a Molotov cocktail at law officers while saying, “Everyone is going to die.” Woerner reportedly escaped and holed himself in one of the apartment complex buildings amid cop panic over the “acidic substance.” He was later arrested and imprisoned.
Authorities say three officers received minor injuries but are expected to recover.
