LIMA, Ohio – It’s camping time, so get out your sunscreen, water, and bug spray!

Children aged 7 to 9 attended the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District’s “Herp! Herp! Hooray!” summer day camp, which celebrated all things “herptiles.”

During the two-day event, campers will engage in interactive lessons and activity stations to learn about Ohio’s amazing amphibians and reptiles before embarking on an adventure to locate these native creatures in their natural habitat.

“I enjoy developing the children’s science inquiry skills. So, rather than telling them what we’re discovering on our hikes, I’m interested in what they notice, what they’re curious about, and how they make observations. Then, I’ll guide them in making those observations to understand why they’re important to the animals,” explained Lindsey Gallaugher, Nature Education Supervisor.
