Driver who caused fatal crash at 100 mph on I-69 accepts plea agreement

Allen County, Indiana – A woman’s prison sentence could be reduced by half after she was accused of driving over 100 mph on Interstate 69 last year, resulting in a crash that killed her sister and child.

Jourdan Hudson, 24, pleaded guilty to several counts of neglecting a dependent and operating a vehicle that caused death, according to Allen Superior Court documents filed Thursday.

On the night of November 23, 2024, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to a crash on southbound I-69 near Union Chapel Road. Hudson was driving an SUV at over 100 mph when it collided with a guardrail and flipped.

When the SUV collided, two children and Hudson’s sister were ejected. The woman and a 6-year-old child were pronounced dead on the scene. The Allen County Coroner identified the victims as Nalani Ella Ervins, six, and Jaiden Samaria Marquis Newbolt, twenty-five.

According to court records, Hudson pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent causing death, neglect of a dependent causing serious injury, another count of neglect of a dependent, and driving a vehicle that caused death. On those charges, the consecutive sentence totals 31 years in prison, with an additional 30 years suspended.

If a judge accepts the plea deal, a slew of other charges will be dropped, including reckless homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving while intoxicated resulting in death.

Hudson’s sentencing is scheduled for October 6.
