Dense Fog Warning for Southern Wisconsin Drivers Sunday Morning

Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Drivers across southern Wisconsin are facing treacherous travel conditions this Sunday morning due to dense fog, which is reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less in many areas until 9 a.m..

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for much of southern and eastern Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Madison, Janesville, and Waukesha. Visibility on major highways such as I-94, I-43, and Highway 151 has dropped below 0.25 miles. The fog is expected to gradually lift between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m..

Areas Affected and Safety Tips

The fog is particularly dense in areas near lakes and rivers, such as Sheboygan and Jefferson counties, and could change rapidly over short distances. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra travel time, especially for early Sunday morning travel. Several Department of Transportation cameras are showing near-zero visibility on stretches of I-94 west of Milwaukee.

This is one of the most widespread summer fog events in Wisconsin this year, affecting over 20 counties.

Outlook

Conditions should improve by mid-morning, but if the humidity and calm winds continue, another advisory may be issued overnight.
