Dense Fog and Hot Weather Grip Raleigh, Storms on the Way

Raleigh, N.C. – Central North Carolina started Sunday morning under a blanket of dense fog, reducing visibility to less than half a mile in some areas. The National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory until 9 a.m., warning drivers of hazardous travel conditions during the early hours. The advisory affected Wake, Durham, Johnston, Orange, Harnett, and surrounding counties, and officials urged drivers to use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and maintain extra distance between vehicles to ensure safety.

Fog was particularly dense in school zones and bus routes, making these areas higher-risk for commuters. As the fog began to lift by mid-morning, central North Carolina will transition to clear skies and rising temperatures, with highs reaching the low 90s. While the afternoon will bring hot and humid weather, conditions are expected to shift again on Monday with a chance of scattered thunderstorms.

Travelers should remain cautious on secondary highways, including U.S. 1, I-40, and I-85, during the early hours as fog can persist on these routes. Authorities have warned that additional fog advisories could be issued overnight in the coming days, as humidity levels stay high in the region.

Five-Day Forecast for Raleigh, NC:
