LIMA, Ohio – Some Lima-area Democrats were out causing “good trouble” this afternoon, marching through downtown Lima to Town Square in protest of the Trump administration.
The demonstration was part of a larger movement that included hundreds of events across the country to protest what organizers describe as increasing attacks on civil and human rights. The Lima 50501 branch is part of a nationwide, decentralized organization that uses peaceful, nonviolent demonstrations to express its beliefs.
“Traditionally, you have to break that 3.5% of the population to get someone to listen,” they say. We’re one of 25 people in Ohio doing 50501 protests. There are thousands of 50501 branches across the country, so we’re simply adding our numbers together. There doesn’t have to be a single protest down in Washington; not everyone can get there. “We want a place where Lima members can come and find hope while peacefully resisting,” said Sebastian Baughn, leader and organizer of the Lima 50501 branch.
The Lima 50501 branch invites anyone interested to attend future protests and make their voices heard.
