The Decatur Fire Department is accepting applications for paid on-call firefighters.
Fire Chief Jeff Sheets recently informed city council that the department is currently four POCs short of its full complement of 25.
An ordinance change now allows 18-year-olds to be employed.
POCs are paid $18.65 for the first hour of response to an incident, followed by $15.22 for each subsequent hour.
Special responses and scheduled monthly training are paid at a rate of $15.22.
The POCs are given all personnel protective fire equipment, an on-the-job personal injury policy, and a biannual fuel and clothing allowance.
Application packets are available at the fire station at 206 S Seventh Street. Applications can also be downloaded from the City of Decatur’s website.
Completed applications and required documents may be delivered or mailed to Decatur City Hall, 172 N Second Street, Decatur, IN 46733. If returning via email, use: [email protected].
