Dangerous Heat Expected in Georgia on Monday Heat Index Could Reach 109°F

Macon, Georgia – Triple-digit heat index values are set to make Monday dangerous across much of Georgia, with conditions ripe for heat-related illnesses from Columbus to Athens.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a Heat Advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday for more than 60 counties, including Bibb, Clarke, Houston, Muscogee, and Telfair. The heat index — the “feels like” temperature — is expected to reach 106°F to 109°F in many areas due to high humidity and extreme afternoon temperatures.

Areas Affected

Cities like Macon, Warner Robins, and Athens will experience the most oppressive conditions, with limited relief even in shaded areas. In Columbus and Fort Benning, military personnel and outdoor workers are advised to watch for signs of heat exhaustion.

Safety Tips

Stay indoors in air conditioning as much as possible.

Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Check on elderly neighbors and pets, as they are especially vulnerable.

If you must be outdoors, take frequent breaks, avoid strenuous activities, and stay in shaded areas during peak heat hours.

Outlook

The Heat Advisory could extend into Tuesday if temperatures remain high overnight and cooling is limited. Updates will be issued as conditions evolve.
