With temperatures soaring into the upper 90s and heat index values pushing near 100°F through Tuesday, residents should be prepared for intense heat and the potential for strong thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Hastings has issued warnings for isolated storms, which are expected to develop Sunday evening. The greatest risk for storms will occur after sunset, with winds possibly reaching up to 30 mph. Daytime highs on Sunday are expected to range from 92°F to 98°F. On Monday, skies will remain partly cloudy, allowing temperatures to climb near 97°F before more storms redevelop in the evening hours.

Tuesday will bring a slight cool-down, with temperatures ranging between 87°F and 94°F. However, scattered thunderstorms will remain a concern during the afternoon and evening, fueled by high humidity and shifting east winds.
