Dakota Wesleyan University marks its 140th anniversary. President Dan Kittle told a gathering that in 1885, the communities of Ordway and Mitchell competed for the opportunity to host DWU. “At that time the church body decided that they were going to take some time to think about it and come back together as part of the annual conference…and decide which community,” Kittle recalled. “And before they could even come back together again, the residents of Mitchell began to dig the basement.”

Fast forward to last week, when Roger and Vicki Musick announced a $33 million donation to DWU and the Mitchell School District. “The intent of that gift was to keep us forever together as a community,” Kittle said. “And it’s already working.”

Kittle also announced a new undergraduate program in computer information systems, as well as the donation of 138 acres of land to the university for its use.
